Best RAM® Mounts for Agricultural Machinery and Farm Vehicles

Harvesters and sprayers often use larger screens, GPS systems, guidance devices or rugged tablets. These devices are heavier than phones and may need stronger components.

For larger screens or tablets, consider a compatible tablet or device holder, C Size components where needed, a fixed AMPS-compatible plate, the shortest practical arm length and a location that does not block machine controls.

In higher-vibration agricultural environments, the mounting base is just as important as the holder. A strong holder will not perform properly if it is connected to a weak or flexible mounting point.

Farm utes are used across many conditions, from sealed roads to gravel tracks, paddocks and worksites. If the mount needs to move between vehicles, a suction cup base may be convenient. If the ute is used daily as a dedicated work vehicle, a fixed base may be a better long-term solution.

For phone navigation, a RAM® X-Grip® holder with a B Size arm is a practical starting point. For tablets, especially larger or rugged tablets, consider a stronger setup and a more stable base.

The base is the foundation of the setup. It determines how the mount attaches to the machine and how stable the final setup will be.

Tough-Claw™ bases are helpful when the cab has a suitable rail, bar or frame. They are useful for temporary or semi-permanent setups and can be repositioned if needed.

AMPS-style plates are a strong choice for permanent installs. They are useful when the mount will stay in one tractor, harvester, sprayer or work vehicle.

Suction cup bases are useful for temporary vehicle setups on smooth surfaces, but they may not be the best option for heavy devices or high-vibration machinery.

The holder should match the device and its case. A phone with a protective case may need more space than the bare phone dimensions suggest. The same applies to tablets and rugged devices.

Choose a universal holder when multiple people use different phones, devices change often or flexibility is more important than a tailored fit. Choose a device-specific or form-fit holder when the same device will be used long-term or the setup is part of a fleet or work system.

The most common mistake is choosing a mount that is too light for the environment. Farm vehicles are not the same as standard passenger vehicles. If the device is heavy or the environment is rough, a stronger base and arm may be needed.

Another common mistake is using an arm that is too long. A long arm may look convenient, but it can create more movement. Keep the setup compact where possible.

Avoid mounting the device where it blocks controls, mirrors, machine displays or visibility. Also make sure the holder does not block the charging port and that cables are routed safely.

Before choosing a mount, check the device type, device weight, case thickness, mounting point, vibration level, arm length, charging access and whether the setup needs to be removable or permanent. Also consider whether B Size or C Size components are more suitable.

For most farm phone and small GPS setups, start with a RAM® X-Grip® or compatible holder, a short or standard B Size arm and a suitable base for the cab. For larger tablets, rugged devices and guidance screens, consider stronger C Size components and a fixed AMPS-style mounting point.
